Adversity in Art

Adversity in Art

American Gothic by Grant Wood. I believe that this piece shows adversity because you can see that the people in the painting are not very happy. You can tell from the painting that they are having a hard time.

Rain Stain by Mel Kadel. This painting shows adversity through the rain. The girl in the painting is just trying to get through but she is struggling. The girl is not giving up though, she continues to walk in the rain to overcome the adversity.

Racism/Incident at Little Rock by Domingo Ulloa. I think that this painting shows adversity very well in that you can see clearly how the black people were treated back then. You can see that the children look a little scared. The adversity the kids are facing here is very scary but they don’t want to just sit and take the ridiculing.

D Day Landings, WWII by Mary Bassett. You can see that in this picture, the men know what they are about to do but they do not want to do it. They know though that it is what has to be done. The artist does a great job here showing how the soldiers have gone through a lot of adversity in the war.

Self-Portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird by Frida Kahlo. I believe that this painting shows adversity through the expression on the woman’s face and by the thing around her neck. I can tell from the picture that the woman feels like she is being pressured to do something or act a certain way and wants to go about life on her own.
